Church History
The First Presbyterian Church of Chipley began in February 1896 when a small group of families invited Rev. L.H. Wilson, an evangelist for the Presbytery to preach. In October of 1896 the church was formally organized with thirteen members. The first elected Elders, D.A. Anderson, J.P. Schell, Sr., and G.W. Johnson were ordained. The congregation held services in various locations until the small congregation was able to complete the construction and dedication of the first building which was located just west of the present day manse (now known as the Pennies from Heaven Shop), The manse was first occupied in 1926.
The congregation began worshiping in its present day sanctuary on July 31, 1938 at the corner of North FIfth Street and Watts Avenue.
Two major renovation projects followed with the construction of the Education Wing in 1958 and the installation of a new pitched roof in 1992. The church completed a project to re-roof all of its facilities in 2016.
